Day 8 Citerna to Citta di Castello

Our longest walk yet, we made 12 miles with three treks uphill each 500 meters up and down. We did this in less than 7 hours which is pretty good for us as we stop often. Today we had our first stop at a place on the hillside that had just made buffalo mozzarella. We sat at the picnic table as the couple we met two nights ago from New Zealand showed up to share it with us. We then walked up the hill a bit further to find the buffalo cows that the cheese came from. That was probably the highlight of today. Again the terrain changed. We walked up and down the hills above the towns below. Some forest, some old country roads. At one point we were in a forest that was totally taken over by ivy. It encompassed not only every tree, log and rock but also covered the forest floor. It was quite cool. We could see the yellow fields of tobacco below us. The trees are just starting to turn colors.

Our feet quite tired, New blisters by the time we reached our airbb in Citta Do Castello. We are staying in the old part of town in an old castle like building complete with a dungeon with a well. Our host is very nice and built us a fire upon our arrival. This medieval town created in the 12th century has many museums and much to see. We are taking tomorrow off as planned, we have two nights in this town. Our host also reserved us a place for dinner at a local favorite place, he suggests the beef Florentine. I'm hungry already. Our lunch was an apple and walnuts over looking the valley below. Another good day, they are going very fast As of the end of today we have walked
71 miles.

Jake's bday today and his new baby is on its way right now. They will share a birthday.
