Ahhh, feels good to sit down! We had a fantastic day, weather perfect again for walking all day. It felt good to take a day off, but even better to be walking again. We chose the right day to stay in town, rainy and cloudy and last night we got to witness the celebration of the goose held each Oct first. I honestly can't remember if I've already written about it, oh yes, i put up a short video that gives you the gist of it.
Today's walk started out with us headed to a old abandoned home which has a castle look standing alone atop a hill. From the bottom we wondered if we would go up that far, an hour later we are looking down on it amazed that once again we are deceived by the hilltop, just when you think you've reached the top, you find a whole nother hill to climb. We felt as if it were pretty much a whole day of up but we are getting stronger and making the ups in about 2 miles an hour instead of one. Our 14 mile walk today was from 8:45 to about 4:00. We stopped for a bit at an abondened church which has been turned into a hostel, very cool! We found Susan as we climbed our last hill into town sitting by the New Zealand couple we thought was far ahead. It was good to see them again.
We also heard the young couple from Germany were here tonight as well. It's fun getting to know the people of the trail a bit. It's funny, we usually walk all day without seeing a soul except for an occasional car going by but we get to town to find people we know. Today we watched the sheep dog herd the sheep into a field in the distance. We had gorgeous views of valleys and hills all day in a perfect 70 degree sunny day. Pietralunga is a cool small town, loved walking into it. We first looked down into it, then up at it before heading through the arch of the city. Each city has an ancient arch into the old part of town.
The last two days I have walked without my sticks carrying my camera instead. So much beauty around. Tomorrow will be more of the same with the same weather forecast. I think so may things to say as I walk, but by the end of the day they are usually not with me.
I picked up a necklace of the Hand of Miriam today. It was in the airbb where we stayed. Our host Max was incredible and let me take it with me. He brought us firewood and gave us great suggestions for dinner out. Last night I must have eaten the happiest cow ever, it was amazing. It was a really cool place , Sonja has the guts to try the wild boar, they call black pork, it was also very good. We keep hoping we will run into elk, deer, pigs along the path, but not yet.
